Workshops and Seminars
CLASSES DESIGNED TO MEET YOUR NEEDS
Wolf Creek Wilderness Skills seminars offer exciting one and two day seminars for organizations, groups, and individuals. The seminars focus on providing quality training for those involved or interested in wilderness survival methods and leadership development through challenge initiatives. Our training is designed for anyone and everyone, from backpackers, hunters, and hikers to those who just like to explore right out their own backyard. Seminars can be sponsored by any agency, group, or individual. Most importantly, both our seminars and retreats can be tailored to fit the needs and desires of specific groups. Team initiatives,
leadership development, and personal challenge
segments makes our programs unique.

Dr. Weishaar engages children of all ages
First, I would like to speak to my program flexibility. I have tailored this wilderness program to many audiences and curriculum focus areas over the past 20 years. I can speak to high school classes about the life and times of Henry David Thoreau and his personal impact on my life. And, how his writings inspired my family and me to move to Alaska in the ‘70’s, build a log cabin in the wilderness and experience nature while learning to deal with the challenges that we faced. Those experiences have led me to present programs from elementary classes to university and community organizations. Elementary classes starting about the 4th grade through the 8th grade in middle school generally are the most engaged with the visual and demonstration components within the program. I have been presenting to many more high schools lately. The main message with the high school students has to do with developing a True North philosophy. Or, in other words, following their compass in life and making sound choices. I can customize my program to discuss stories, such as, Call of the Wild, Hatchet, Julie and the Wolves and Downriver or to present actual wilderness survival demonstrations to various audiences. I take the lessons of wilderness living and survival and design programs to fit the audience. Over the past seven years, I have made several faculty presentations demonstrating survival skills while at the same time transferring these skills into our daily tasks as educators. These programs have been very popular and have received exemplary ratings and feedback.
The student presentations include references to various curriculum areas and the importance of integrated studies. Particular emphasis is given to writing, science and mathematics. The programs can be structured to last from 45 minutes to 2 hours in length with interactive components embedded in the presentation. The power point portion of the presentation needs to be inside. However, the demonstrations can be performed either inside or outside. The program includes a power point slide show of wilderness living in the Alaskan bush, discussion of survival priorities, actual demonstrations of survival techniques and high interest, adventure writing. I have authored many articles about wilderness living and survival skills over the past 25 years. Currently, I am working on a book featuring a young man of middle school age living and learning to survive in the Alaskan bush.
My engagements can be tailored to meet your needs with as many individual presentations as you may need during the school day. I prefer to speak to groups about 50 students at a time because of the interactive nature. However, this is an average and can go larger or smaller. The school will need to provide an LCD projector and three tables for displays and demonstrations.
I am currently in Colorado Springs, CO in a district that provides a two week break every nine weeks. My wife and I own a house in Burnet County northwest of Austin and return “home” during these breaks. This schedule allows me to share this program with interested schools over that period of time.
