Dr. John Weishaar has been a school administrator and educator for 40 years. He was raised on the Texas gulf coast, attended Stephen F. Austin State University and earned his B.S. degree in Physical Education. John has served in nine school districts over the course of his career in the capacity of teacher, coach, principal, and executive director of curriculum and instruction. During the course of his life he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, served as a deputy sheriff in the mountains of Colorado, volunteer firefighter, hunter safety instructor, search and rescue instructor, backcountry ranger, and for the past 25 years has operated a wilderness survival business (www.outdoorwildernessskills.com)
Much of his experience in the wilderness first hand and learned from trial and error. He moved to the interior of Alaska in 1978, and with his wife and son built a log cabin where they learned the lessons of the wilderness. Flint and Steel depicts many of the events that took place while living in the interior of Alaska. He earned a doctorate in 2001 from Nova Southeastern University in Florida specializing in Educational Leadership. He currently lives in Bertram, Texas with his wife.
